NICK ALDERSON B.A. (Hons) G.D.L.A.
PRINCIPAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
Nick Alderson is a landscape architect with over 12 years experience in Local Government.
Following the completion of a degree in the social sciences at the University of Kent in England, Nick pursued a career in Landscape Architecture.
He completed his studies at the Queensland University of Technology in 1982, whereupon he was appointed manager of the landscape and design branch of Jensen International in Brisbane. In this position, Nick was responsible for the design, planning and project management of a range of residential and commercial projects in South East Queensland including:
·The Mayfair Crest Hotel.
·The Sheraton International Hotel.
·Aspley Hypermarket.
·Riverside Plaza.
·Albion Park Raceway.
In 1985, Nick moved to Central Queensland and specialized in open space and recreational planning as Parks Director of Calliope Shire Council. In this position he quickly gained a reputation for the development of a variety of regionally significant projects in both the public and private sector. The Turtleway Linear Park System, comprising over 15km of foreshore bikeways, and the Lake Awoonga Recreation Area, are just two of the projects for which Nick’s commitment to quality public open space has been recognized. These have been awarded by both the Royal Australian Planning Institute and the Queensland Tourist and Travel Corporation.
During a twelve year period in local government Nick’s role was expanded to service both Corporate Industry and other local Authorities in landscape planning, environmental management and design. The client base included: I.C.I.; Ticor; Queensland Alumina; Boyne Smelters Limited; The University of Central Queensland and the Gladstone Area Water Board.
In April 1997, Nick left the Calliope Shire Council in order to enter private practice as the Principal of Alderson and Associates Landscape Architects, in order to continue to provide Landscape Architectural Consultancy services to the Central Queensland region.
